GroundTruth can help advertisers activate first-party hashed email data by converting eligible hashed email lists into an audience segment for use in campaign targeting.
This article explains the requirements for submitting a hashed email list and what to expect during the onboarding process.
Overview
If you have a first-party email list, you can securely share a properly hashed version of that list with GroundTruth for audience onboarding. After the list is validated and matched, the resulting audience can be activated for targeting in Ads Manager.
The overall process is as follow:
Contact your GroundTruth representative or email us at selfservehelp@gmail.com.
We will send you a data confidentiality agreement to review and sign.
Once completed, share your list of hashed emails with GroundTruth.
GroundTruth will convert the hashed emails (HEMs) into MAID-based audiences and deliver them to your tenant for activation.

Before You Submit a File
Before GroundTruth can accept a hashed email list, an agreement authorizing the sharing of hashed emails must be in place. Do not send hashed email files until the appropriate agreement has been completed.
Minimum Recommended File Size
For best results, GroundTruth recommends submitting at least 20,000 hashed emails.
Smaller files may lead to:
- Lower match rates
- Limited audience scale
- Reduced campaign delivery potential
File Requirements
To be accepted, your file must meet all of the following requirements:
- Emails must be hashed using SHA-256
- Each hashed email must be exactly 64 characters
- All hashed values must be lowercase
- The file must not include spaces or extra characters
- Raw email addresses are not accepted under any circumstances
If any hashes are not 64 characters long, they are considered invalid and cannot be processed.
How to Prepare Your File
You may generate SHA-256 hashes using your internal tools, CRM platform, data team workflows, or another secure hashing method, as long as the final output meets GroundTruth’s formatting requirements. GroundTruth only accepts SHA-256 hashed emails for this process.

What Happens After Submission
Once your hashed email file is received, GroundTruth attempts to match those hashed emails against its identity graph. Matched records are associated with mobile advertising identifiers, and a targetable audience segment is created for activation in the advertiser’s environment.
Expected Turnaround Time
Standard turnaround time is 48 hours.
After processing, GroundTruth will:
- Share the match rate
- Confirm when the audience segment is available for activation
Expected Outcome
At the end of the process:
- A targetable audience segment is created
- The audience can be used in campaign activation
- Match rate information is documented and shared back with the client or account team
Common Issues That Can Delay Processing
Please review your file carefully before submission. Common issues include:
- Hashes are not exactly 64 characters
- Emails were not hashed using SHA-256
- The file contains raw email addresses
- Required account or segment details were not provided
- Segment naming was not specified
